30 Days of Serenate

Day Two: Your Favorite Nate Quote

“It’s just… do you ever feel like our whole lives have been planned out for us? You know, we’re just gonna.. end up like our parents? Aren’t we entitled to choose? Just to… be happy?”

It was incredibly difficult to choose a favorite quote from this character because Nate is flawless to me. He’s an unfailingly loyal friend, so much so that often times, he gets taken advantage of. He’s brave and heroic and ambitious and capable even if he doesn’t realize it all the time and even if the show doesn’t capitalize on his potential, I think he’s amazing. He loves Serena for all that she is and he never judges or questions.. He just accepts her and pushes her in the right direction when he has to. He’s great with Blair and amazing with Chuck and just.. ugh, I have so many feelings about this man. Even when Dan kissed his mother effing girlfriend, he was still the better man by calling and apologizing first (although he had nothing to apologize for considering he was once again being a good person and telling Vanessa the truth while Dan was off being a douche bag). Anyway, before he basically became irrelevant to these writers, this quote really did sum up Nate and his struggle with himself and the life that was handed to him. He’s always just wanted to be happy and I think that’s why Serena was such a point of reverence for him because she represented the freedom that he always wanted in his own life. He’s always had the potential to be a seriously beautiful character and I love him.

M: “So you obviously knew Lewis was taking the fall for Savannah.” D: “Look, after we heard her arguing with Lewis, I asked her. She swore me to secrecy. I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you.” M: “I’m your best friend.” D: “And she’s my girlfriend.” D: “When I came back from New Orleans, we both agreed that our relationship had to be different… So we don’t make the same mistakes… So, now it’s different.” M: “That’s probably a good thing, huh?”
